It happens every year, I plan a photo shoot for the family and then feel that we need new outfits; I look all over the web for the perfect coordinating outfits then end up dropping another $100-200 on new clothes next to the $150-300 on the photos đ¤Śđźââď¸.
This year I decided to do things a little differently and it all started here at Value Village!
Now I didn’t get everything here, I got the smallest two boys at Boomerang kids and tried to shop our closets as much as possible too.
I have to say, I am a big fan of how things turned out. I will run down our outfits so you know which pieces were thrifted and of course cost.
I always, always start with my outfit. I am the most opinionated about my clothes so I figure this is only fair….right?
I knew that I wanted a skirt and top and something in either sequins or tulle so I headed straight for the skirt section. One trick I have learned is to look in my size but also the size above and below. This skirt is not my size, it is a medium but I just wore it super high up which also made the length a little more flattering. This skirt was only $4.99 and still had the tags attached, score! As soon as I saw it I knew that I needed to wear a dress shirt tied up so I just grabbed this one from my husbands closet. I had the heels and jewellery so I was done!
Sweaters with ties under are my favourite looks for men so my next stop was the men’s sweater section. I found this Merino Wool sweater for my husband for $13 and well worth it, everything else was from his closet.
Now! Here is where the real steals happen. The two older boys tops are from Zara $4 each, as are M’s burgundy pants that I got in the bargain bin for $2!!! His sweater is Ralph Lauren and was $6 all of these were from Boomerang Kids which is by far my favourite place to get our kids clothes and the best part is I can sell them back to the store when they outgrow everything.
The suspenders and bow tie were from my local buy nothing group so happy dance for this Momma!
I have learned not to fight the kids into adorable shoes and just let them wear what they want, and you know what? They are happier and that makes them smile more!
So let’s run this down, outfits for a family of five came in at $33! Plus these pieces are all staples, and I plan to wear this to Ian’s work Christmas Party as well so there is two wears right there.
I encourage you to try and shop your closet and hit up the thrift stores before hitting the mall. Your wallet and the planet will Thank You, trust me!
