Trends, they are something I stay away from honestly for many reasons mostly because those things become disposable in a couple seasons and that is not my approach to fashion. Trends are also often taken on by fast fashion retailers and again I try to buy as small as possible.
That being said, I have bought into a couple trends this year and mainly because they fit my general style so I feel they will have a long life in my closet.
My favourite trend right now is overalls, regular, shorts, jeans and joggers I love them all. I know that they can feel a little intimidating to try but I want to help you style them so that you feel comfortable picking them out of your closet and going without a second thought.
First, let’s talk about the overalls themselves:
My number one favourite which I can wear year round is my jogger style bib overalls from Free Reign (unfortunately they are sold out but you can achieve a similar look with ones from Smash & Tess).
The thing I love about these is the comfort level. There are no real buckles and the fabric is amazingly soft and stretchy. The cuffed ankle also makes it easy to pair multiple shoe types with.
Second is my classic denim shorteralls (these are from the Gap). I chose them in a light wash so that they are light and summery but they still go with many combinations or tops and shoes but I can almost guarantee you will see me in sandals or runners most of the time.
Lastly are these awesome button front overalls that I picked up from my favourite boutique Doree’s Habit, they are a fun and a light pink which I find dresses them up just a little. They are also made from a stretchy material so they are extremely comfortable yet they are tailored so nicely that people don’t often realize the material.
Now, let’s talk about what to wear under them. All of these tops options will work for all of the above overalls as well as long denim or the Smash & Tess I mentioned before.
Tops:
All of them can take a tee or tank either plain or graphic.
Bodysuits are also on trend and work perfectly under overalls to give you that flat side so no fabric creeps out the sides. I am also a huge fan of having something off the shoulders so you can actually see the detail.
The third way and probably my favourite has to be to wear a blouse or button down. Wearing something that seems opposite is a great way to throw a little more style into your look. Most opposing styles work very together like the blouse and overalls; dressy and casual.
So what do you think? Can you jump on the bandwagon of this old yet new trend?
